Abstract
The prior classification of lawnball was based on the type of disability but as it has changed to classify by remaining functional ability regardless of type. We compared all athletes registered with the Korean Lawnball Association by the prior medical categorization and the revised 2004 classification and assessed the changes in class ratings. The most common disability was paraplegia with 168 people and quadriplegia, hemiplegia, amputation, and monoplegia followed and the new classification had 29 people in class B4, 14 in B5, 154 in B6 and 103 in B7 while 18 people were excluded. According to the new classification method, the overall classes showed a reductive aspect and most were moved from B5 to B6 and some minor handicapped people were excluded. We conclude that the new method was shown to allow more varying disabilities to compete against one another.
